Sanchetana Community Health and Research Centre is wholeheartedly dedicated to promote environmental conservation and sustainability in every aspect of its work. Understanding the critical role that a healthy environment plays in community well-being, Sanchetana seamlessly weaves sustainable practices into its programs and imparts this knowledge to its staff and beneficiaries.
The organization takes proactive steps in raising community awareness about environmental issues and inculcating a sense of environmental responsibility. Activities such as tree planting and effective waste management serve as practical examples to educate community members about the paramount importance of environmental conservation and adopting sustainable habits to reduce our ecological footprint.
Through its steadfast commitment to environmental preservation and sustainable initiatives, Sanchetana Community Health and Research Centre ensures that its endeavors go beyond health, education, and income generation. Our Key Interventions
Kitchen Gardens: Promoting Community Health and Nutrition
As part of our commitment to community well-being, we've initiated the establishment of kitchen gardens within select households in the slums. This project serves as an educational platform, empowering families to create and maintain organic gardens. These gardens feature a thoughtfully curated mix of crops, encompassing indigenous vegetables, cereals, and root crops, all aimed at providing families with a well-rounded and nutritious diet. Our dedicated field facilitators have worked diligently to mobilize the community, encouraging them to embrace kitchen gardening as a means to enhance their nutrition and overall health.
Khamba Compost; Advancing Waste Recovery and Environmental Conservation
In our pursuit of minimizing waste and achieving zero waste disposal in the vicinity, we've introduced Khamba Compost systems into several households within the slums. Khamba Compost not only enhances waste recovery but also aligns with our enduring goal of curbing environmental degradation stemming from solid waste accumulation. Moreover, this initiative significantly contributes to raising hygiene standards within the community, fostering a cleaner and healthier environment for all.
Greening Urban Slums: Our Commitment to Reduce Pollution
Over the years, we've spearheaded tree plantation efforts within urban slums to combat pollution and promote eco-friendly practices. In fact, many of the trees you see in previously barren areas were planted by our dedicated team. This year, we've taken our green mission even further by partnering with the Centre for Environment Education (CEE) in the Green Ahmedabad Initiative, supported by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). Through this collaboration, we've planted numerous trees and plants as part of our ongoing commitment to fostering a cleaner and greener community.
